It's the way we think, act, speak, and love one another. It's in the way we raise our families, love our community, and seek the good of others before ourselves. Here's what makes Trekko church unique:
We find the heart and character of God uniquely in the person of Jesus. And we cannot see God any clearer than in the attitudes and actions of Jesus. Thus, we believe that loving God and loving our neighbor begins and ends with pursuing an ever deepening connection to Jesus.
Jesus is clear about what he wants to do: embrace everyone in his unconditional love. And the only response to being loved unconditionally is transformation. True change does not come unless I have been fully and completely loved. And I can only be fully loved by the person of Jesus. Thus, the mission of Jesus is a pursuit of every part of creation until we have all been made new by this abundant love.
We believe this mission is most clearly seen in Jesus’ teaching in Luke 15. Particularly, the entire mission of God can be summed up in one scene: the father running eagerly to the prodigal son as the son heads for home.
No apology necessary. No need to clean up. Just stop running away and let the God who created you embrace you in his love.
When we are embraced by this loving God, we are made into new people. We call this discipleship. It is not a one time event. It is an ongoing process that invites me to fall deeper and deeper into the love God has for me and let that transform the way I treat those around me.
As I seek to follow in Jesus’ loving footsteps, I find myself stepping into the amazing adventure God has prepared for me of living in the heavenly kingdom here and now, using my own life to extend the same loving embrace that I received from the father.
My feet become the feet of the father, running to the prodigal children. My hands become the hands of the father extended in transformative love, clothing those around me with the new identity of beloved children. This is the kind of faith community we are striving to be.
We have intentionally placed ourselves on a secular campus, with thousands of students who do not know they are deeply loved by God. We want to be a space where they can find the loving embrace of Jesus.
We believe the emerging adult is in a unique stage of life where they are wrestling with three main questions: identity (who am I?), community (who are my people?), and purpose (what difference do I make?). We believe God is integral to answering these questions and we want to help students encounter God in ways that address these deep questions.
We also believe that discipleship is best done in intergenerational spaces. We know that churches benefit from valuing emerging adult voices, engaging them in their journey of integrating faith into life as they step into adulthood. Young adults are also blessed by being in relationship with healthy, loving adults and families. Trekko seeks to cultivate this authentic community so that all people are embraced by God’s loving transformation and empowered to live abundantly.
The church is the community where hurting and desperate people can come into contact with God’s transformative love. In this way, the church exists both for God’s glory as well as the world around it. It paints a picture of what life lived in this unconditional love looks like and invites everyone to step into that abundant life.
Yet the church is made up of rebellious and broken children of God. We are not a perfect representation of God’s love for you...yet. But we are in process and seeking to be continually shaped by God into a more prefect picture of God’s love for you. Will you join us?
